The Department of Education for the Flooding and Marine Industries marked its 56th anniversary in 1963 as the Department of Education at Pukyong National University, which was established in 1963 to train vocational teachers in accordance with Article 125 of the Education Act. In the meantime, graduates of this department have devoted themselves to fostering professionals in the flood and marine industries, and they have greatly contributed to the balanced development of the flood and marine industry.
Students who have completed 150 credits in this department will be appointed as teachers at the Fisheries High School (10 schools) and Maritime High School (2 schools) with an intermediate level 2 teacher certificate (food processing, fisheries and marine, navigation, engineering, and refrigeration). They are also qualified as teachers at the secondary level (mathematics, physics, Japanese, earth science, integrated science, construction, chemical engineering, printing, electronics, communication, information and computer, machinery, materials, design, clothing, tourism, photography, and nutrition) with a minor or double major. 36 (55%) out of 66 graduates of this department have been working as teachers in the past five years. In particular, they are working as teachers in the humanities math department, English, science, and technology.

Currently, the principal and university of fisheries and marine high schools contribute to the development of junior students, and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute, the Korea Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation, and the Vocational Competency Development Institute contribute to the revitalization of fisheries education.
